The Ley-Lines And Lost-Past Of North Kent part 29 Triangle Of Light
75There are various ways of looking at this almost un-nameable 'thing' in the landscape- it has many layers and interleaved, interconnected manifestations and out-workings. It is- as everything in the living universe is- fractal in nature. Like Indra's Beads, to gaze into one part is to gaze into the whole- and the whole is visible in the part.
An example of this would be in the 'triangularity' thing, something we have, like everything else in this blog, merely touched upon thus far. We've seen that there are three standing-stones in St Augustine's Abbey Canterbury which form a right-angled triangle. We saw then that this triangle was repeated on a larger scale- St Augustine's Abbey - Cathedral - Dungeon Hill; and that this triangle was again repeated on a larger scale, this time in a triangle extending all the way from the abbey to the most northern tip- John-O'-Groats, from there to the most south-western extremity at Lands End; and from there back to Canterbury and the trinity of stones in the abbey. I think I forgot to relate to you, several times, the interesting fact that, according to my calculations, the area within this big triangle is 77791.665 miles. I think we've seen that number a few times before, and I get the feeling we might come across it again.
But due to the fact that we hadn't- at the time- yet filled-in the complete wheel, hadn't investigated every sign, it was neccessary to omit a few relevant details because of the danger that we might- in the sheer flood of data- over-look the relative importance of things pointed-out, as we went on our journey around the country, the triangle and the wheel. But by now, if you've read every installment of this blog, the overall picture should be more-or-less fixed in your mind and we can continue to fill-in the missing details with little risk of inormation overload.
So there's this other triangle that fits in between the Canterbury triangle (Abbey - Cathedral - Mound), and the big-one around the entire UK land-mass. It runs from the hinge on Salisbury Plain to the equinoctial temple on the Isles Of Resurrection, Thanet. It goes north from Thanet till it comes to Seahenge, and from there it returns to the hinge. This triangle- is, I think, impressive enough on its own- but it's the dimensions of it which are interesting, I think.
From Stonehenge to Thanet ram's-head-temple is seven-score (140) miles. From Stonehenge to Seahenge is eight-score (160) miles. From Thanet rams-head-temple to Seahenge is six-score (120) miles. The area contained within that triangle is... wait for it... almost exactly seven-thousand square miles! And it has within it seven counties, Kent, Norfolk, Sufolk, Essex, Hertfordshire, East Sussex and West Sussex. Of course it's all a coincidence, isn't it?
This seven-hundred-square-mile triangle is what can be rightfully called a 'triangle-of-light,' because two of the triangle's edges ARE solar-alignments corresponding to the season-of-light: spring-equinox - may-day - summer-solstice - lammas - mabon or autumnal equinox. The moment that Sol slips below the lower-edge of the triangle the world enters the winter-season- ruled by the moon- and the sun-god goes to his resting-place- Durovernum- the 'Native Home' (vernum = one's native home originally).
During the dark-half of the year as the sun travels south, the moon-goddess takes over the role of the sun-god and moves ever-northward into the light-triangle, previously occupied by her consort, Sol. And by the time of his shortest-day over the Solent (sol + lent = Sol's starvation, fast or deprivation) she is riding high in the night-sky and rises on the far-side of The Wash, in Lincolnshire further north than than he ever does.
Now, on the subject of Sol's apparent death at midwinter-solstice. We've seen before how the sun sets (his evil twin Set kils Osiris daily and yearly), as seen from the hinge, over the 'Rude Man,' in Cerne Abbas, Devon. This particular day, winter-solstice, in previous era's, was Yule, known to us as Christmas. Given that 'rude' is the origin of 'red,' and that he aligns with the hinge and sunset on the longest-night of the year- the obvous conclusion is that this figure laying sideways in the Devon hills is none-other than Santa Claus! And now we can work-out exactly what gifts he brings to the world in his 'sack.' Fertility! Life itself! And the 'club' in his hand? Of course, it's the original yule-log- a blazing-torch to lead humanity through the longest night of the year. Makes sense now don't it? This interpretation of the significance and meaning of the ancient figure is confirmed or even proved by the name of the village- Cerne Abbas. 'Cerne' is but one way the word for 'seed' was pronounced and rendered in ancient times- the word we still use for the heart of the grain, the 'kernel,' comes directly from it. The second part of the village name, Abbas, means simply 'abyss.' 'Seed in the abyss,' is the resulting sentence. A clear image is painted: midwinter is the dark abyss, the grave- the womb. The sun-god is at his lowest elevation- from northern latitudes he doesn't rise above the horizon, rolls along it before sinking back into the abyss. This then- winter-solstice, yule, christmas tide- is the moment when Sol impregnates the earth goddess- plants his seed in the womb- the abyss.
I've hinted at the fact- in passing- on a number of occasions that at the opposite time of the solar-round- midsummer-solstice- when Sol rises at his most northerly position, 'he' rises in alignment with the south-side of The Wash in Norfolk, over a ring of oaks known (bizarrely) as Seahenge. Or at least he did in 2049 BC.
This is no coincidence, AND it is no hinge, either- this is the original christmas tree!!! When the sun-sets on winter-solstice over the Solent, it is also, at the same moment, in alignment with: The Rude Man, Stonehenge AND Seahenge. The upturned-oak at the centre of the 55 split-oak posts is (or was) an evergreen Holm or Holly Oak. See the significance...? There was but one opening in the circle of posts surrounding the central tree- and it faced the south-west- the direction of the hinge, exactly eight-score miles away. So when the last red-rays of the winter-solstice sunset spilled-out bloody across the land, reddening the chalk appendage of the Rude Man, blushing with pink the blue-stones at Stonehenge before finally entering the 'Y' shaped slit-opening in the circle-of-posts at The Wash, splatterig onto the exposed-roots of the upside-down tree within.
This, I believe, offers enormous insight into the minds of the ancient's, enormous insight into their 'odd' doing's- their motivations.
The sun-god is deep within the abyss, the nether-world where the ancestors dwell. At his lowest ebb and with the very last rays of his life-giving light he spills it red onto- and vivifying- the roots of an evergreen tree which- upside down- grows into the underworld. This- at the same instant- fertilises the earth goddess and ensures the continuing 'life' of the ancestors and their nine-tiered world, for this evergreen 'christmas-tree' is the 'tree-of-life,' which, in conjunction with the axis-mundi centred in Canterbury- connects the three-worlds together. So, in the ancient scheme of things, there were two or more poles- the axis-mundi and the tree-of-life, which is similar to the modern understanding of the two poles- the geographic pole on which the globe spins, and the geomagnetic (positive + and negative -) pole. To transpose this onto the ancient model would be that the axis mundi equates to the geographic pole- and the upside-down christmas tree to the magnetic. One is to do with stability, direction, the seasonal changes, rotation, the other with the more hidden, mysterious aspects- the reincarnating soul/spirit 'life-forces.'
